First Nations Youth Perspective

ICT For Our Futures

TEKKRU Media’s Debut Video

The implementation of Information Communication Technology (ICT) into First Nations communities in BC is a topic that several aboriginal and government organizations have been keen to talk about.  Urban communities currently have different opportunities and services in comparison to rural communities, which has a significant impact on the lives and futures of the majority of the aboriginal population.  Increased levels of health care, education and economic development are a few areas that the TEKKRU Media Team wanted to talk about in the short advocacy video called “ICT For Our Futures”.  This video is important because it voices the desires of the aboriginal YOUTH community in regard to ICT implementation.  It is important for everyone to remember that in the world of ICT, YOUTH are a strong, able and experienced army that can and will lead the future of the digital world.

Way to start the new year!

On Sunday, Janurary.4th 2009 I got in my first car accident ( where i was the driver ) Scariest moment of my life so far!! I wasn’t harmed in any way accept for my emotional state! The car didn’t get totaled or anything but I really think that the snow saved me, because i landed in the ditch with the car on its side and theres a mini dent on the passenger side of the door, but theres another one on the corner pannel and thats a bigger dent. I was by myslelf at night time, which was stupid of me anyways, but if I didn’t have my cell phone and service, who knows how long I would have been out there, I was lucky and won’t be driving up North anytime soon until the snow is GONE!

* No pictures, but maybe I’ll upload one later* lol

Well the days hear in the REZ are sure cold. Times have changed and people are different. I am sure that our old friends miss the times when we got together and partied like the city. I am happy that life is changed now, I feel good about the future and how it can become a place to live out our many dreams and wishes from our past.
I speak with respect when I say I am grateful that I am still here on this planet making the best of what I have been given.

Yours truly,

Nature

Nature is mighty
Nature is strong
Nature is usually always right
Nature is rarely ever wrong
Nature is beauty
Nature is moody
Nature is smart
Nature always has the greater part
Nature is blue
Nature is green
Nature is every color possibly seen
Nature is true
Nature is beaming
Nature is dreaming
Nature is in every place
Nature is always with grace
Nature is true
Nature is you
Nature is me
Nature will forever be free.

Find Freedom in the place you live weather it be in the outdoors or indoors.
Path Of Peace

Path Of Peace
By Paul Mc Cann

Peace is an easy path to tread
Peace is where our fears are mislaid
Peace is beginning to restore
Peace for each man, woman and child
Peace for the troubled streets gone wild
Peace is for the old and the young
Peace in the end will overcome
Peace builds trust into a lifestyle
Peace is a friendly open hand
Peace is a place to understand
Peace in the end will overcome
Peace is for the old and the young
Peace is a legacy to leave
Peace is when we don’t have to grieve
Peace is and ends to all the hate
Peace is why we negotiate
Peace for all the victims of war

Find Peace where ever you are no matter who you are and where you came from.

Yours Always Truly,
Miss Takla, Blogger of the North.
